At Atera, we place the greatest importance on the quality and safety of our products.
All our products undergo extensive testing, in order to ensure that our safety standards are met.
Regrettably we have detected a defect with our GENIO PRO rear carrier: We have received isolated complaints about the locking function of the tilting mechanism; in rare cases there is a risk of the carrier tilting during a journey. This malfunction could lead to a change in vehicle handling, and pose a hazard to road safety. Furthermore, the bikes being carried would probably be damaged.
Please be assured that the loaded bike carrier will remain securely attached to the vehicle, even if this malfunction occurs.
Our work is based on our uncompromising commitment to quality, with the safety and well-being of our customers being paramount to us. This is why we have decided to initiate a voluntary product recall for the Atera GENIO PRO model, requiring some parts to be replaced with modified parts.
Please initiate the following urgent measures:
With immediate effect, do not use your Atera GENIO PRO and do not allow use by third parties.
Check the product nameplate in order to determine whether you are affected by this recall - the product nameplate is located below the wheel tray platform and is visible when the carrier is tilted.
Please proceed as follows if you own a Genio Pro bike carrier:

Contact your specialist dealer from whom you purchased your Atera GENIO PRO.
Your specialist dealer will arrange for the carrier to be returned to Atera for modifications, and will ensure that the process is as straightforward as possible for you.

Q: Are other Atera products affected by this recall?
A: No. Only the Atera GENIO PRO bike rear carrier is affected.
Q: Can I continue using the Atera GENIO PRO?
A: No. As part of our uncompromising commitment to quality, we have decided to recall the product. We recommend that our customers stop using the Atera GENIO PRO immediately and do not allow use by third parties. There is a risk that the locking function of the so-called folding mechanism is released. This may lead to a change in driving performance, which poses a hazard to road safety.
Q: Is my Genio Pro bicycle carrier affected by the recall?
A: Your carrier is affected by the recall if the label on the packaging box says "Genio Pro" (see photos) and the number underneath the left barcode ends with "000". In this case, please contact your dealer that they can process the complaint for you. If this is not possible for you, please send us an e-mail to rueckruf@atera.de with your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address.
If the label on the packaging box says "Genio Pro Advanced" and the number underneath the left barcode ends with "001", the carrier is not affected by the recall.
If your carrier has a reinforcement on the bolt and a green dot in the extension of the attachment of the trailer coupling (see photos), it was affected by the recall but has been repaired.
Q: What are the next steps?
A: With immediate effect, we urge you to stop using the product, not allow use by third parties, and contact your specialist dealer. They will be happy to help you with the recall process. Atera GmbH will carry out the necessary modifications in Leutkirch as soon as possible. Most importers outside Germany have been trained to do these modifications locally.
